Do you know why you should love your job/career?

The answer to that question is actually quite simple but since I like numbers I would like to explain it to you in an analytical way. 

There are 365 days in a year. That is approximately 8,760 hours. That is approximately 525,600 minutes( A very catchy song). That is approximately 31,536,000 seconds. I know I know that is a bit extreme. 

Ok now lets assume a few more things if your a full time worker. You work 40 hours a week but sometimes you work overtime. That is around 8 hours a day of work. You need to get to work and get ready for work so lets latch on an hour each way. Thats 10 hours a day. You need to sleep to function so lets subtract the average of 7 hours a day. That leaves you with a grand total of 7 hours for yourself. 

The average person gets around two weeks of vacation a year. That is 50 weeks that you will actually work. 50 hours are actually spent getting to work/working and getting back from work. That means that 2,500 hours will be spent getting to work/working and getting back from work in the year. 

2,500/8,760 (hours in a year)=28% on your total time in the year is spent working and that doesn’t include sleep. 

The simple answer to why you should love your career/job is quite simple. Because you spend so much of your existence working that you should like it!

Note: The numbers I used were very basic and rudimentary.

Struggling with modern life and the bombardment of information and saying you don’t have the time to focus on what’s important? 

I think I might have a solution for that. Pick up a book its called the 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch. It explains pareto’s principle in full detail and many of the laws of the universe. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the world around you. 20 percent of the population owns 80 percent of the wealth. 20 percent of workers in a company account for 80 percent of the revenues. It helps really cut through what’s important. I would highly reccomend the book. I still haven’t finished it but here are some insights I got from it. 

Focus on the 20 percent of your time where you are most productive/creative/happy. Try to minimize the other 80 percent. By focusing on the 20 percent that is already working you can multiply the results by a huge amount. 

Focus on the people/relationships that have the most positive impact (these are the 20 percent). Try to downgrade or eliminate the people who bring your mood and overall enthusiasm down(the 80 percent). 

If something is working for you try to put more eggs and energy into that basket. The author brings the point of customers. There are good and bad customers. A minority of your customers will account for a majority or the revenue/profits. Focus on them, pamper those customers and try to find those type of people in future sales.

I think the applications of the book are endless and quite inspiring. You should definitely check the book out.
